DeFi lending platform Aave to launch consumer yield App: “A Trojan horse into the banking system”

In major development bridging de-centralized finance (DeFi) with traditional finance (TradFi), the world’s largest DeFi crypto lending platform, Aave, is set to roll out a consumer yield App on Apple’s App store. With the Aave App, users will be able to earn up to 9% annualized yield – higher than money market funds –  and can deposit funds directly from bank accounts, debit cards or in stablecoins. The App also offers up to $1 million in balance protection.

According to an Aave blogpost on the product:

“Unlike traditional savings accounts, your interest compounds every second, so you watch your savings grow in real time instead of waiting for a monthly, quarterly, or even yearly payout.”

According to the CEO of 51Insights, a crypto market research firm, the Aave App “is the most important consumer finance app of 2025”. In a Linkedin post, Marc Baumann stated:

“Aave didn’t just launch an app. It launched a Trojan horse into the banking system. And if you’ve been asking yourself, how crypto goes mainstream: this is it…

“Your grandmother won’t know she’s using Aave. But she’ll just know her savings earn 9% instead of 0.5%.”

Aave’s move follows its recent acquisition of the San Francisco-based App developer Stable Finance.

“We believe the future of finance is onchain, and this acquisition reinforces our commitment to turning onchain finance into everyday finance – earning interest, borrowing, and saving,” Aave founder Stani Kulechov was quoted in the media as saying about the acquisition.

The Aave lending platform is no niche start-up. The platform has some $70 billion active deposits and over $3 trillion in lifetime deposits. With the launch of this new App, these numbers will look pale in comparison. As for the traditional banking system, with competitors like Aave, it will need to adapt in a race against time and relevance. Yet such adaption is well underway – and one of the frontrunners is the antiquated global payment network system SWIFT, which is in the process of migrating its decades-old system onto the blockchain. But this is another story.
